Mobile Trends 2020
Rudy De Waele at m-trends.org has a very good compilation of mobile predictions for this decade. It’s 62 slides of great thoughts and ideas, so definitely check it out when you have the time.
My comments:
- I agree with Timo Arnall that eventually we’ll see backlash to the always-on, reachable-everywhere culture. People are not robots. (Right?)
- We’ll have a much better mobile payment platform someday soon. We will spend a lot more when this happens and capitalism fuels innovation.
- I disagree with Ilja Laurs and agree with Marek Pawlowski and Matthaus Krzykowski. I think mobile apps will go to the cloud (accessible via an improved mobile browser and HTML5) which makes mobile OS almost irrelevant. There are too many mobile platforms now (Apple, Blackberry, Windows, Symbian, Palm and Android) and developing for mobile web is the easiest way to reach all platforms. The technology will allow this to happen soon.
- The idea for mobile as advertising channel is interesting, but I don’t think we’ve figured out the format yet so far. I agree with Tomi Ahonen. I don’t think it’s going to be notification ads based on geolocation. The idea of getting an SMS on my hand phone offering a discount every time I pass a Starbucks is really irritating.
