Two Underrated Features That Should Be In Every Twitter Client
My Twitter client of choice is Seesmic Desktop which I find to be the best out there right now. But even Seesmic Desktop lacks these two features:
- Mute button. This functionality blocks selected users temporarily. There are plenty of reasons why you want to do this. Maybe they are live-tweeting something you don’t care about. Or maybe some of your friends are tweeting back-and-forth in public conversation about something they should be taking to DM instead.
Current Twitter clients with this functionality (that I’m aware of): Brizzly (web-based client which is pretty good), Twitstat Mobile (my choice for mobile web client) - Location-based search. When I first moved to Singapore, I wanted to know what was hot in Singapore and what people in Singapore were talking about. Furthermore, Twitter is planning to make each tweet location-aware, proving that location-based information is getting more and more important. There are services that currently do interesting things with location-based information, for example Nearby Tweets and Happn.in, but location-based search should really be a standard feature in Twitter clients.
Current Twitter clients with this functionality (that I’m aware of): TwitterLocal (a weak Twitter client), Slandr (an average mobile web client)
If you know more Twitter clients with the above features, do let me know. Also, I’m currently checking out FriendBinder which approaches the “mute” capability with a different angle.
