In Indonesia, the telco operators do a good job in creating demand to get online. They realize that people don’t want “the internet.” They want internet services — chatting and socializing with friends, get news updates, etc.
Indonesians are now familiar with Facebook and Twitter, but a lot of them don’t know (or care) the internet infrastructure behind it. They would say things like “Oh yeah, I have Facebook on my phone, but I don’t have internet.”
