How do you share links?

This article at Technologizer and this one at Mashable reported that Facebook is leading other methods when it comes to sharing links on the internet. At second place is email. It’s no surprising to me that Facebook came out on top. Facebook has 250 million users and it has truly become a place to socialize for most internet users. The geeks may have their own preferred communities, but for the general internet masses, Facebook is where it’s at.

I share links whenever I can, but I try to keep to a certain theme (mostly techie stuff, healthy living stuff, and things around Indonesia and Singapore). For any other topics, if I find the article interesting enough, I may share it on Facebook only. I only have real-life friends on Facebook and most of them are the non-techie type.

I also use Facebook and Friendfeed as aggregators. A lot of my activities around the internet get pushed to these two services. Here’s how I share links:

  • I get most of my news from Google Reader. If I find a story that’s interesting, I click on the Share button, which will then get pushed to Facebook and Friendfeed.
  • Sometimes I read Google Reader using Feedly on Firefox. Feedly has excellent integration with services like Twitter, Friendfeed and Tumblr. So if I happen to be using Feedly when reading the article, I may also tweet the link from within Feedly.
  • If I really like the article and if it goes well with the theme of this blog, then I’ll also blog it with some comments.
  • I also re-share links at places where I find them. So I would digg an article at Digg, reblog a post in Tumblr and retweet a tweet in Twitter.
  • If I find the article to be useful where I might want to refer to it again in the future, I will copy-and-paste the whole content into Evernote.
  • I don’t use social bookmarking services like Delicious anymore. I discovered that I only go to a small number of sites and their bookmarks are already on my browser. Besides, Google search is more useful than a bunch of saved bookmarks. I do however still update my Google Bookmarks, mostly because I’m interested to see where Google takes this service in the future and how it will further integrate with Google Chrome.
  • I don’t use the Friendfeed bookmarklet often (to share links within Friendfeed). I figure, all my shared links get pushed to Friendfeed. But if I share a link in Friendfeed, then it will be available only to my Friendfeed friends.
