I Quit Tumblarity

hunsonisgroovy:

Dear Tumblr,

I played your game called Tumblarity ever since it was released. I believed you guys had good intentions when you released it so I went with it since you guys haven’t steered me wrong… until now.

My Tumblarity fell over 200+ point when I went to take a shower. Then another 300+ when I went to class. WTF? I want to know how this number is calculated right now. I don’t want a figurative explaination, I want mathematical answers.

So with that said, I quit Tumblarity.

Based on my observation, tumblarity score is calculated within a certain period of time. I’m guessing this is around 1 week. Within this time period, you get points based on new followers, reblogs and likes. So if today you get 100 likes on your post and get 100 extra tumblarity score, after 1 week (the end of tumblarity calculation time frame) your tumblarity will automatically get deducted by 100 points. In other words, you need to maintain your “popularity” to maintain the score. However, because the time frame is not clear, the tumblarity score seems to move up and down without reason.

How do I come to conclude all of that? I have a tumblarity of between 0 and 20, so it’s easy to notice the changes. Also, here are the points assigned from what I can see:

  • Like: +1 point
  • Reblog: +3 points
  • New follower: +3 points

Edit 16 Sep. 2009: Follow up post on Tumblarity calculation can be found here.
